Wed 4th August, 2010 - Day 68 - Exmouth

I met Marcus, the computer repair technician at Reception & he walked back to the van with me. He seemed a really nice fellow. He said he would take the computer back to his place to do the repairs, he said it would cost less as he could do other repairs while it was being scanned etc. I handed it over to him & he said it would be returned during the afternoon.

Soon after Marcus had left we headed back along the main road to a couple of scenic drives we had been told about. They were both in Cape Range National Park. The first of these, Shothole Canyon, was over 12km of fairly corrugated road. At the end of the road there was a small lookout where we snapped a couple of shots. I had seen some Sturt Desert Peas along the way & had intended taking a photo on the way back, however I forgot about it. Hopefully we will see more as we go further south.

After returning to the main road we went about another 10km along the highway & turned onto Charles Knife Canyon Rd. This road wound its way steeply to the top of the range. It started off sealed then gave way to gravel. As we climbed we came to sections of the road that ran along sheer drops into the canyon, on both sides. As we neared the end of the road, we came to a turn off to a lookout, so we turned onto a very rough track which we endured for a few hundred metres. We then decided to walk the rest of the way. It turned out the track we had already covered was the roughest. We needed the exercise & after a relatively short walk arrived at the so called lookout. This turned out to be disappointing, however the other pull-offs along the way provided spectacular views into the Canyons.

From here it was back to the main road where we stopped at Exmouth Fish Co where we purchase 500grms of Endeavour Prawns to add to our packed salad lunch. We consumed this on the lawn of a lovely park at the Fish Co. Of course our lunch was just delicious.

Then it was back to the car to the caravan park, where upon arrival we received a phone call from Lucas telling us that he had our computer finished and his partner, Fran, would meet us at Reception. Hence, $200.00 later and we had our computer back and working again.

Today Les & Betty, our neighbours, came to our van for Happy Hour.
