Tues 29th June, 2010 - Day 32

The Victoria Highway was the place to be today, as we made tracks to our overnight stay at Victoria River Roadhouse on the way to The Kimberly.

We left the Low Level Caravan Park in Katherine for the last time, (this trip anyway) at 8.10am & headed west. After a couple of hours I was feeling a bit drowsy, so we pulled into a bush camp (The Sullivan Campground) for a cuppa. The track in was quite rough & the dust was like powder. After morning tea, we found it was only a short distance to the roadhouse & after 20mins we were there.

The scenery here is really spectacular as can be seen in the photos. There is a long road bridge over the Victoria River which is just short of the Roadhouse. We paid $10 each (person) for a power site & then picked our own sites. We set our vans facing each other. After lunch we all had a nap. By the time our nap was over it was Happy Hour & we consumed our wine etc while sitting outside our vans. We then wandered down to the bridge to see the river & escarpment at sundown, which was quite spectacular.

Mick & I had thought we would do a bit of fishing, however the girls had found out that the river was populated by “salties”, so we gave that a miss.

Maureen cooked bubble & squeak for dinner, which the Mullers had with steak. Grandee & I had ours with leftover chicken tonight. Dessert consisted of mostly apple with added banana & mandarin etc. This meal was made up of fruit & vegetables which we had to get rid of before reaching the Quarantine Station on the Western Australia border.

Then it was off to bed in preparation for an exciting day tomorrow as we head for Western Australia, where our Kimberly Adventure will start.

  1. Well, no wonder you are tired andhad to have a nanna nap....But it sounds great - say hi to Mick & Maureen for us.

Guess what! I turned myself off on Tues night and didn't realise - I know that I turned the button off but didn't realise what it did - I thought it was just the screen. Found out when I spoke to the nurse about noon yesterday - and wow I won't do it again, but it is a lesson well learnt and I know now what i feels like if some outside influence turns me off. Very valuable lesson.

Well, we are busy arguing here what we should be doing for the sale of the house. Everyone has an opinion. Never mind we will get there.

Best go, Erin will be home soon and we are off to Seven Hills to the shops! How exciting eh?

luv ya, Janice & cres - stay safe

  2. Hi Mum & Dad,

I have only just read your 29th June entry tonight, so unfortunately I have fallen behind. I will have to pull my finger out and get reading so as to catch back up!!!

Things have been busy here. I have had 2 sick boys. Mitchie with his bronchilitis/asthma (which now seems to be under control, after about 3 doctor visits!!!) and William who has been really sick on and off with fevers, etc, only to find out that the poor little fellow has an ear infection. Will is now doing really well after some antibiotics.

Justin's hand is really good now. He still doesn't have full strength, however he had his last physio appointment yesterday, so it is all over for him - yeah!!!!

I had best read another couple of entries and then get to bed.

    Sleep tight.
    Love Tonixxx
