I checked the tide chart & found our best time for fishing, we went towards the Wharf at about 2.30pm, Mick & Maureen in their vehicle & we in ours. We lined up at the fuel depot to replenish our Diesel supplies. After about 20minutes we refuelled, then Mick went over to the small park near the Information Centre to finish a transaction he had arranged the day before with
an indigenous fella named Keith. Mick had purchased one carved boab nut for $35 a day earlier & wanted to purchase another three. Keith only had one finished nut & he said if Mick would pay him $50 there & then he would have another two for him tomorrow at 9am. He said "trust me", & Mick did, shaking his hand. He handed over a $50 note.
When Mick went back to pick up his purchase during the next morning, Keith was nowhere to be seen & he found that his dark friend had been seen drunk the previous night, obviously using his new wealth for purchasing the grog.
Denise spied Keith in the park using his sales pitch on other tourists. Mick fronted him & Keith said he would go & get the nuts, so off he went, never to be seen again.
Mick & I continued on to the boat ramps near the wharf in his vehicle. We fished for an hour or so, I caught a small catfish which Mick used as bait on his larger rig. I also caught a small Barramundi which I returned to the water. Unfortunately I have no photographic evidence of this catch, but "trust me" it was true!!!!
Happy hour that night was celebrated with our friends Kay & Tony & two other new friends, Lorraine & Geoff. We finished the night with dinner at the BBQ area then headed off to bed.
