Thurs 24th June, 2010 - Day 27

Leaving the beautiful Low Level Caravan Park at Katherine at about 9.20am we set out along the Stuart Highway heading to Pine Creek where we turned right onto the Kakadu Highway. This road was narrow, windy & there were potholes in quite a few places. The safest speed we could travel at was between 80 & 90 Kph. A few kilometres along this highway we pulled into a rest area for morning tea & found the surface wasn't sealed. Grandee was very worried that the van would be covered in dust, however this was unfounded & the van came out still looking shiny.

We arrived at Gagudju Lodge at Cooinda at about 2pm. Grandee & I checked in at reception where we also booked a Yellow Waters Sunrise Cruise for 6.45 am Friday morning. We were able to choose another cruise for an extra $10 each, so we decide on a sunset cruise for Saturday. The early morning cruise also included breakfast in the price. We also were given a voucher for $50 if you stayed for three nights or more. This voucher can be used in the Bistro for meals.

After setting up on our site we discovered it was happy hour, so we lounged around sipping Grape Juice & eating nibblies. Then it was time for dinner. I barbecued a couple of steaks, onion & tomato & mushrooms. Grandee poached a couple of eggs. This combination went down very easily; then it was time for showers, after which we turned in for the night in preparation for an early rise tomorrow morning.
