Thurs, 10th June, 2010 - Day 13

Back with you again after having no outside contact whilst at Kings Canyon

We departed Ayers Rock at 8.15am heading for Kings Canyon on the Lasseter Hwy. Mick & Maureen preceded us by about 15 minutes. The wind was with us until we reached the Kings Canyon Road at 136 kms, then it was into a headwind which slowed us a bit & of course helped us use more fuel. Morning tea was a Salt Creek Rest Area. We pulled in behind Mick & Maureen who had almost finished their cuppa & they pulled out about 5 mins before us. Our next stop was Kings Creek Station where we refuelled, paying $1.70 a litre for diesel. Mick thought he was doing the right thing when he topped up at Curtin Springs on the Lasseter Hwy, however he paid $1.93.

Arriving at Kings Canyon Resort & checking in, we were told to pick our site. When we found the Mullers, we were pleased to see that they had reserved a site next to them by the perimeter fence & after quite a bit of aligning of the van we hooked up to power etc. Being next to the fence Mick had been told, was the best place to view wild dingos. This was true as later in the day an old dingo turned up, roaming among the vans etc.

After lunch we went back along the highway about 15km to Kathleen Springs & did an enjoyable walk which filled in most of the afternoon.

Mick & I barbecued the meat for tea after which we headed for the resort dining area where we spent the rest of the evening being entertained by a man & wife team. Grandee & I ended up as part of the entertainment as can be seen in the photos. Then it was home & into bed to get a good night’s sleep in preparation for a big day of walking on Friday.
