Sat 17th July, 2010 - Day 50 - Week 8

After breakfast this morning, we picked up Lindy & Neil & walked to the local weekly Markets. We arrived after only a few minutes & found a large number of stalls set up selling a variety of wares. Grandee & I purchased a mossie repellent holder which should be very useful outside the van at night. We also purchased a date roll which proved to be very tasty with a cuppa.
After the markets we walked to a Coffee Shop where we had morning tea. During coffee, the local Red Double Decker sightseeing bus went past & Denise thought she could see Peter West (our friend from Forbes), hanging out the top of the bus. We had been receiving text messages from Pete whom we hadn't seen since Kakadu.

After morning tea we did a little more walking, we then returned to the Motel where we left Lindy to do a little reading.

Our guide Neil then directed us on a sightseeing tour of the local aboriginal tent city, which was on a vacant allotment, on a hilly position above the town. There were a few tents with a large amount of rubbish scattered around them, Neil had found this area during one of his morning walks.

We then drove to Roebuck Bay which was only a short distance south from Broome township. The colour of the water here was a beautiful shade of blue & we found "paradise" at the Roebuck Caravan Park which fronted the Town Beach. It was high tide whilst we were here & very beautiful. Of course at low tide the mud flats extend up to 3kms which takes away a lot of the beauty.

Whilst talking to one of the “locals” at the caravan park who should turn up but Tony & Kay, our Tasmanian friends. We decided to have lunch at a restaurant at the northern end of the caravan park. Tony & Kay joined us & also Lindy after retrieving her from the Motel. Lunch proved to be very tasty.

After leaving Kay & Tony & dropping off Lindy & Neil we returned to our caravan to prepare for our farewell dinner for Maureen & Mick who were to start on their return trip to Mudgee the following day.

The dinner was at a nice Thai Restaurant in “China Town” in Broome. We were joined by Kay & Tony; also Lorraine & Geoff. The meal was buffet style & very tasty.

After this feast & farewells, we returned to our respective abodes for the night.

  1. Hi guys,

Here we are back again - a little busy lately - working, baby sitting, property development, etc etc etc. Sarah & Paul & Ben have gone on holidays at Palm Cove - yeah - about as hard as your life at the moment.

But all is good, we are trying to buy a propety - 5 acres - but they don't want our trucks, but mind you everybody else has some sort of trucks, business going on. We will see - I just phoned Janelle and she advised us to go see the council - only problem is it is Penrith Council.

Auntie Joan has had several falls, the last one has maybe resulted in a fractured vertebrae - she is in Orange Base Hospital under fairly heavy sedation for the pain and the dementia. She apparently doesn't remember Ilford Road, Uncle Norm, but then I remember Mum didn't talk about Dad either. So I think that is quite normal for dementia patients....

Anyway, have a great time - I can't believe how social you guys are - no wonder so many people love travelling in vans etc etc.

Enjoy more - stay safe, luv ya, say hi to Lindy & Neil for us, also to your new friends.

Cheers, Janice & crew xo xo xo xo xo xo xo xo
