is 25 klms from Broken Hill. In September, 1883 the town's population was 250 and had peaked at 3,000 by the end of 1885. As Broken Hill's
larger mines were established, Silverton
fell into decline. Altho
ugh today Silverton has a population of less than 60 people, it is far from
a 'ghost town'. The town is enjoying a new lease of life, breathed into it by visitors interested in its mining history, art galleries and its popularity as a television and movie location (A Town like Alice, Mad Max 2 and countless TV commercials.
We also enjoyed our morning tea while at Silverton.
Then it was back into Broken Hill and to the Silver City Mint Art Centre & Chocolate Factory which is home to the largest acrylic painting on canvas (12m x 100m). Here we purchased 2 small paintings (prints 0f course).
Lunch was enjoyed in a lovely park in Broken Hill.
We then went to a small shopping centre to purchase a few groceries and top up the fuel tanks ready for our departure tomorrow morning.
