Today is our 40th wedding anniversary & my (Poppy’s), 65th birthday.
The first engagement of the day, after arising and dressing was to front up to the BBQ area for pancakes, as it was ‘Pancake Sunday’. We line d up in the long queue with dinner plates in hand & eventually had a large pancake (not as thick or as yummy as yours Toni) whacked on our plates. After applying toppings that suited our fancy we returned to our table where we promptly consumed them , then we returned for seconds. You could line up as many times as you liked. The record for men was 13 pancakes & women 9. We only ate 2 each which was plenty for us. We then returned to our vans for a cuppa as it was too cold outside to have one of the supplied at the BBQ area.
Next on the agenda for the day was a trip to the railway station to have a look at ‘The Ghan’ which we knew from a check on the web should be there. When we arrived, there it was in all it’s glory. Twenty eight carriages long plus two diesel engines & two vehicle carriers. It’s length was over ¾ of a km . We were lucky enough to be able to have a look inside one of the carriages. After that we made our way to the back of the train & checked out the vehicle carriers which on this occasion were carrying two 4WDs. As we made our way back to the other end of the train our mobile phone rang & on answering found it was Danielle. I asked her if she & the boys were in Cammoweal (where she had told us she was taking the boys to playgroup), to which she answered yes. After saying goodbye we continued walking towards the diesel locomotives. I said I reckoned Dan was probable at our caravan park & not in Cammoweal. As we walked on, suddenly out of nowhere Dan & the boys including Sophie the boys Governess appeared, what a surprise!!!! We found that the Mullers had known for weeks of their intended visit & Maureen had only minutes before been talking to Dan on her mobile. After hugs & kisses & me with Tommy in tow, we checked out the two locos & then departed the raiway station for the shopping centre where we purchased food for lunch.
The rest of the afternoon was spent catching up. We found that Dan was staying at a Motel/caravan park not far from where we were. What a great day was had by all.
