The Mullers departed north at 8.00 am. It feels strange not having them with us now & their site is bare. Hopefully, all being well, we will meet up again in Katherine in a couple of weeks. They are going to Darwin & Litchfield which are not on our schedule as we visited both places on our first big trip about seven years ago.
At approximately 11am Grandee & I set off in the Patrol heading for the East Macdonnell Ranges. Maureen had been told at reception that Trephina Gorge was the best place to visit, so that was where we were going.
After travelling the eighty odd kilometres we arrived at the Trephina Gorge car-park where we had a cuppa before setting off on a one hour walk. Like the Kings Canyon walk the first section was very steep as we climbed to the top of the ridge. On the Canyon walk the rocks had been cemented in place, whereas here they were loose & you had to be very careful where you put your foot, or you might end up with a sprained ankle, or worse.
We had to keep on looking around in all directions as well as down, otherwise you would miss out on a magical photo.( I think I am getting the photography bug). Other walkers passed us & I really wonder what they missed out on seeing.
When we descended to the river bed, we had to paddle through water at times otherwise we would have had to climb over huge boulders, a lot of which were impassable. At least we didn’t have to wade through water up to our knees as the Mullers did on one of their West Macdonnell Ranges walks.
Arriving back at the car park we filled a couple of water containers from a drinking water tap Grandee had seen earlier, then we sat on a log (as you do in the bush) , & consumed our gourmet sandwiches from the cool section of my backpack. We then headed back to The Alice where we arrived at about 3pm. After a cuppa, Grandee did her ironing while I did a bit of work on the blog. My ironing will have to wait ‘til tomorrow.
